Most of us love the flag of our country which symbolizes freedom, including religious freedom. If asked, most of us would agree, the United States government should not require a "superior prominence" infringing on that religious expression? SO;
The question is not: Do you honor our country's flag? The question is: Do you honor what our country's flag stands for?Standard A flag, banner, or ensign and is also an emblem or flag of an army, raised on a pole to indicate the rallying point in battle. Our faith and families are under attack The time has come for a nation to rally under the Standard of God !!!
________________________________ DID YOU KNOW The US Flag Code allows a religious flag to be displayed over the US flag on US Navy ships during religious services? Why does the same US Flag Code NOT show the same respect for God in your own houses of worship???? If displayed in church, the current US Flag Code requires the flag of the United States to be placed in a position of "superior prominence" above all other flags including the flag of your religion. THE PROBLEM OF PROMINENCE To most of us the marriage of God and country is as American as apple pie - but there is also a major battle brewing. Many houses of worship are facing the problem an intrusion into the sanctuary traditionally reserved for God. The intrusion is coming as patriotism in the form of our country's flag. The American flag moved into some houses of worship during the World Wars and was quietly slipped out the back door of others during Vietnam. Since 9/11, the flag has moved back into many houses of worship. It seems that our flag is blowing in the wind of political correctness. Is this same acceptance of political correctness allowing one of God's most basic laws to be overlooked in favor of the US Flag Code by many houses of worship? Is the flag of our country becoming an object of idolatry when it is given the position of "superior prominence" above the very symbols of our faith? In our haste to promote patriotism are we ignoring and degrading God who gave our country the rights of life? Is this an isolated problem, or does it reflect the larger problem of many people in our country turning their backs on God and the values of faith and family? The war by some to remove God from schools, courtrooms and our Pledge of Allegiance is really an effort remove God from the American way of life. They want to place our country first in our lives and to ignore God. By allowing government to abuse our freedom of religious expression in claiming "superior prominence" in the sanctuaries of our faith are we playing into the hands of the anti God crowd? Has the time come for houses of worship to standup for God? God's Standard First is committed to solving this problem. We believe if your house of worship wishes to display the flag of our country it should not be on the terms of the current US Flag Code which requires the US flag assume a place of superior prominence over the flag of your faith. To change one of the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God is not a real option, therefore we will ask Congress to change the US Flag Code. The bill will basically amend title 4, United States Code, to allow religious flags to be displayed in a place of superior prominence to the flag of the United States at or in a place of worship. The symbolism of God over our Country will be realized every time you pass a house of worship and see what high honor the people of the United States give to God. The people of the world will know the real strength of our country comes from God when we put God's Standard first. PROPOSAL FOR CONGRESS Change the US Flag Code to allow flags of religion to assume their rightful place of prominence at or in places of worship. To amend title 4, United States Code, to allow religious flags to be displayed in a place of superior prominence to the flag of the United States at or in a place of Worship. What If??? What if the US Flag Code was different and currently allowed the Christian Flag or other religious flags to be in the position of prominence in a church? I wonder if a member of Congress would then propose this amendment? To amend title 4, United States Code, to "require" the flag of the United States to be displayed in a place of "superior prominence" to religious flags at or in a place of Worship. Do you think people of faith would accept this for one minute? Why then are we accepting it today? CURRENT US FLAG CODE US CODE - TITLE 4 - FLAG AND SEAL, SEAT OF GOVERNMENT, AND THE STATES CHAPTER 1 - THE FLAG Sec. 7. Position and manner of display -STATUTE (in part) (c) No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy (k) When used on a speaker's platform, the flag, if displayed flat, should be displayed above and behind the speaker. When displayed from a staff in a church or public auditorium, the flag of the United States of America should hold the position of superior prominence, in advance of the audience, and in the position of honor at the clergyman's or speaker's right as he faces the audience. Any other flag so displayed should be placed on the left of the clergyman or speaker or to the right of the audience. Current US Flag Code Miscellaneous Navy Flags - Religious FREE EXERCISE OF RELIGION U.S. Constitution: First Amendment Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ''The Free Exercise Clause . . . withdraws from legislative power, state and federal, the exertion of any restraint on the free exercise of religion. Its purpose is to secure religious liberty in the individual by prohibiting any invasions there by civil authority.'' It bars ''governmental regulation of religious beliefs as such,'' prohibiting misuse of secular governmental programs ''to impede the observance of one or all religions or . . . to discriminate invidiously between religions . . . even though the burden may be characterized as being only indirect.'' FindLaw.com Does The US Flag Code Violate The First Amendment? - How does the federal government justify the religious freedom allowed for church pennants on Navy Ships, which are the property of the United States and use restraint in the form of superior prominence over religious flags on the private property of the church? - Does the current US Flag Code directly or indirectly impose civil authority by requiring the flag of the United States of America, if displayed in a church, be placed in the position of superior prominence? - By using the term "church" in the current US Flag Code does federal government impede the observance of, or discriminate against, non-Christian religions? POTENIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT CHANGING THE US FLAG CODE Notice from God's Standard First - This effort in no way is to dishonor the flag of the United States of America. - Christian, Jewish or other religious views on this website are in no way meant to offend or exclude any other religion. - We use "place of worship" as a generic term to include Churches, Synagogues, Temples, Mosques and any other place where religion is practiced. - The proposal calls for "at or in a place of worship." This means on the property, in or on a building and on a flagpole in front of a place of worship. It will also include a school and classroom located at a place of worship. Would the Cross, Star of David or Islamic Crescent, fly over an American flag at or in a place of worship? - YES, if that is the flag of their religion and THEY choose to fly it in the place of prominence. - The First Amendment allows for freedom of ALL religious expression. - Any religious discrimination is not to be tolerated by the United States. Will people abuse the Flag of the United States with this change? - Yes. People will always seek ways to abuse the flag of our country. - 99.99% of the time this change will allow mainstream houses of worship to display the flag of their religion in the proper role of prominence with the flag of our country. Should the American flag receive equal prominence with the flag of religion? - NO. The United States should never be placed in a position equal to God. God should always be seen as prominent. In places of worship, will a religious flag be required to assume the position of superior prominence? -NO. This change would "allow" for a religious flag, displayed at or in a place of worship, to assume the place of superior prominence over the flag of the United States. The US government cannot require a house of worship to display the flag of their religion. It is our hope that each individual religion will make the decision to assume that position. How would Vets feel about this? - We have found that veterans, more than most, believe in God above Country. Are you trying to dishonor the American flag? - NO. To fly the flag of our religion over the flag of our country symbolizes that the real strength of the American people comes from God. Should the flag of the United States be removed from places of worship? - NO. The goal of Gods Standard First will be to encourage places of worship to display both the flag of their religion and the flag of their country. What's the big deal, aren't these just flags? -NO. The flag of the United States is a symbol of our country The flag of our faith is a symbol of God.

I was amazed that the US Flag Code called for "superior prominence" for the flag of the United States even in my church. In the years since I often travel a road where a church flies the American flag over the Christian flag. I believe the symbolism of that display is wrong. A symbol of God should be above all things including the symbol of our country. Most of us love the flag of our country which symbolizes freedom, including religious freedom. If asked, most of us would agree, the United States government should not require a "superior prominence" infringing on that religious expression? The question is not: Do you honor our country's flag? The question is: Do you honor what our country's flag stands for?The following is a poem I wrote about 10 years ago which is relevant to this issue. God Gave Our Country The freedom which the Pilgrims sought, The lessons of life the Bible taught, To a new generation may be lost, If people of God don’t pay the cost. The religious rights our forefathers saw, Which in our constitution became the law, Are under attack by a liberal cause, To stop prayer in our schools and halls. When people teach that God is wrong, And prayer from our school is forever gone, Can the Children of God last for long, If we don’t unite to prove God strong? When Christians do their righteous deed, And Godly leaders pay them heed, Only then can the right succeed, And the shadow of darkness will recede. The separation of Church from State, Is surely work of the Devil’s fate, The laws of man may be of late, But it’s God’s law that made us great. We all must stand for morals and right, And respect why our fathers died in fight, We must never lose our vision and sight, That God gave our country the rights to life. Psalm 118:15-17 15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! 16 The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right hand has done mighty things!" 17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. Isaiah 41:9-11 9 I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 11 All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Isaiah 63:11-13 11 Then his people recalled the days of old, the days of Moses and his people- where is he who brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them, 12 who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown, 13 who led them through the depths? The Christian Flag / Bob Jones University Display of the flag became more controversial during World War II, when Congress adopted standards for proper etiquette in displaying the American flag. The standards mandated that the flag of the United States always be given the preeminent place when displayed with another flag. 9 The legislation contained no penalties, and was therefore more of a courtesy matter than a statute, but it caused problems in some churches. More liberal churches in particular saw conflicts between clergy worried about giving preeminence to "Caesar" over Christ and congregations wanting to promote patriotism in light of the world war. It is not a denominational flag or a church flag, but a symbol of our allegiance to Jesus Christ, who is above all others. It is a cardinal tenet of our faith that our loyalty to Christ comes above all earthly loyalties. Conover was not alone in his concern about subordinating Christian (or intended Christian) symbols to a national flag. They warn the flag is in danger of becoming the object of idolatry, which is considered a sin in the Christian church. Without mentioning God even once, the entire Book of Esther is another example of the approach to this problem. We can assuredly conclude that from a Biblical perspective God is above any king or ruler or other authority or symbol. We call our church house, "the House of God." If it is consecrated for the worship of God, can we thoughtfully place the flag of any nation in the place of honor or in any place where it will be in evidence when we worship God. Some of us speak of the area where we worship as a "sanctuary," which means a sacred place. To bring into our "holy of Holies" the proud emblem of national power and put it in the position of honor, is for some thoughtful persons putting God under our country. This means among other things, according to the generally accepted code, that it should have the highest position if one flag is above another, it should lead in processions, it should be placed on the right of a minister or speaker if used on the chancel or platform or on the right of the congregation or audience if standing on the floor. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted only when draped as a pall on the casket of a veteran who has served our country honorably in uniform. In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat, the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nations honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body. The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life. The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life. The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks and who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. The fourth fold represents our weaker nature; for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidan The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong.” The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stand, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mothers Day. The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded. The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first born. The eleventh fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost. National Flag Day Foundation ~ US Flag.org
